The Meghan Markle Engagement Ring: Ethics & Class

Prince Harry designed a custom three-stone engagement ring for Meghan Markle, set with a stunning cushion cut center, flanked by round diamonds. The side diamonds were from his mother, Princess Diana, and the center stone was personally selected by the Prince. The socially conscious couple chose an ethically mined Botswanan center diamond, as they had travelled Botswana together, and Harry knew of the significant positive impact the diamond trade has upon the region. The three stones were originally set on a classic yellow gold band.

Meghan’s center cushion cut center stone is approximately 3 carats, while the round side stones add around 1.5 carats. After the birth of her son, Archie, Meghan also added a pave diamond band to her ring, bumping the total carat weight up to around 4.75cttw (carat total weight). In other words, her Meghan’s engagement ring has around five carats of diamonds. Perfect for a princess.

Meghan’s center stone is a newly mined ethical diamond sourced from Botswana. The side stones were recycled from the collection of Princess Diana, Prince Harry’s late mother. Harry himself confirmed the sourcing of the stones himself, adding that he wanted to be sure his mother was with them on “this crazy journey” of marriage in the public eye.
