FAQs
SI2 means 'Slightly Included 2,' with inclusions often visible to the naked eye. In a 2 carat rose cut, SI2 inclusions are almost always clearly visible through the transparent dome. The flat bottom and glass-like quality provide zero concealment. SI2 in a rose cut at this size means visible inclusions are expected.
Only if visible inclusions are accepted as part of the stone's character. Some buyers appreciate the look of visible internal features through the rose cut's glassy dome, treating them as natural character marks. However, if clean transparency is the goal, SI2 is not appropriate for a rose cut at any carat weight.
The difference is dramatic. An SI2 round brilliant may be eye-clean because the pavilion scatters light and conceals inclusions. An SI2 rose cut at 2 carats will show inclusions clearly through the transparent dome. The rose cut is the absolute worst shape for low clarity grades because it hides nothing.
Maximum value play, requiring careful individual stone inspection to confirm eye-clean quality. At 2 carats, SI2 rose offers significant savings when you select an eye-clean stone. Since the rose cut's open facets show more detail, confirming eye-clean quality at SI2 is important.
