FAQs

SI2 in an asscher carries a high risk of visible inclusions. The step-cut windmill-pattern facets are the most transparent of any standard shape, openly revealing imperfections. SI2 inclusions are almost always visible. This shape-clarity combination is generally not recommended unless comfortable with visible inclusions as a trade-off for lower price.
An SI2 asscher will typically show visible inclusions. Some buyers accept this as a trade-off for significant savings and larger carat size. If choosing SI2, look for transparent (not dark) inclusions near the trimmed corners. A bezel setting can partially obscure the periphery.
VS2 with individual inspection is far better. A well-selected VS2 asscher is eye-clean at much less than VVS grades. A smaller asscher at VS1 may satisfy better than a larger SI2. The asscher's vintage elegance depends on clean, crisp windmill-pattern reflections.
SI2 clarity is in some brilliant cuts eye-clean in asscher cut diamonds. Inclusions easily seen under magnification, may be visible to the naked eye. For this step-cut shape, generally not recommended for step cuts as inclusions will likely be visible.
