FAQs

Finding an eye-clean SI1 asscher is challenging. The step-cut's transparent windmill-pattern facets reveal inclusions more openly than any brilliant shape. SI1 inclusions are often visible through the window-like faceting. Some SI1 asschers with favorable edge inclusions may be acceptable, but eye-clean SI1 asschers are uncommon.
SI1 is generally not recommended. The step-cut facets are too transparent for SI1 inclusions to be reliably hidden. The standard recommendation is VS1 for guaranteed eye-clean quality, or VS2 with individual inspection. SI1 offers savings but carries the highest risk of visible inclusions in this transparent shape.
Look for inclusions near the trimmed corners or edges, far from the center. Choose white or transparent inclusions. Be realistic: the asscher's windmill-pattern transparency makes most SI1 inclusions visible. A smaller asscher at VS1 often looks better than a larger SI1.
SI1 clarity is in many brilliant cuts eye-clean in asscher cut diamonds. Inclusions noticeable under 10x magnification, sometimes visible to the naked eye depending on the cut. For this step-cut shape, risky in step cuts where the transparent facets may reveal inclusions to the naked eye.
