FAQs
I shows noticeable warmth in an asscher cut. The step-cut facets are among the most transparent, and I's warm tint is visible through the large, flat windmill-pattern facets. Yellow and rose gold can help, but the asscher's transparency makes I more challenging than in brilliant shapes. For white gold asschers, G or F is strongly recommended.
Yellow gold is best, providing the strongest color neutralization for the transparent facets. Rose gold also helps. White gold and platinum are not recommended for I color asscher cuts because the cool metal creates maximum contrast with the warm body color visible through the step-cut facets.
I offers savings but is a riskier choice in an asscher than in brilliant cuts. The step-cut transparency reveals body color openly. In yellow gold, I can look attractive. In white gold, the warmth may detract from the asscher's clean, vintage elegance. For most asscher buyers, G offers a better balance.
The difference between I and J color is very difficult to detect with the naked eye in a asscher cut, though step-cut facets can show color slightly more readily. Once set in a ring, both grades appear very similar. Choosing J color over I in a carat asscher can free up budget for a better cut or larger stone.
